Iodosorb (cadexomer iodine) is a topical antimicrobial dressing designed for chronic, exuding wounds. It releases iodine to kill bacteria, absorbs exudate (up to six times its weight), and helps debride the wound bed, changing color from brown to yellow/grey as it works. It is available as a gel/ointment or paste.
Contains cadexomer (modified starch microbeads) and 0.9% iodine, providing sustained antimicrobial activity for up to 72 hours.
Indications: Used for treating chronic, moist ulcers (venous stasis, diabetic foot, pressure sores), as well as infected trauma or surgical wounds.
Benefits: It helps to reduce biofilms, remove pus and debris, and maintain a moist wound healing environment.
Application: It is non-adhesive, which helps reduce trauma during dressing changes.
Duration: Generally, it should not be used continuously for more than 3 months.
Contraindications: Do not use if you have known iodine sensitivity, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, Graves’ Disease, a non-toxic nodular goiter, or if you are pregnant or lactating.
Side Effects: A slight, transient pain may occur during the first hour of application.
Usage: For external use only. It should not be used on dry wounds.
Color Change:The product changes color from brown to yellow/white as the iodine is released.
